2010 Trumpeter Award Winner: Bob Leis

The Trumpeter Award is presented annually to one MRVAC member for outstanding long-term contributions to MRVAC.  With MRVAC’s rich history of dedicated volunteers, it is always a challenge for the nominating committee to single out one of the many to receive the annual Trumpeter Award.  This year we have selected a member who has been an active member of MRVAC, since 1977.  Bob Leis was quick to become a leader in the Chapter, by taking on the role of Chapter Treasurer in 1981 and holding the position until 1994.  Bob, and his wife Linda, also hosted a number of memorable spring picnics during the early 1980s at their orchard.

Bob has also been an active fund raiser for MRVAC.   One of those fundraisers that Bob organized was the sale of cranberries by chapter members.  Bob and his family have also been strong supporters of the Birdathon and the Holiday Auction.  The apples, squash, cider and jam from Bob’s Bluebird Orchard have always been some of the more sought after items at the annual event for over 20 years!

The chapter and its membership have benefited greatly, thanks to Bob’s leadership and contributions to MRVAC.  Thank you, Bob!  We appreciate all your contributions to the chapter!

The Trumpeter Award will be presented to Bob at the May 27 meeting at the Visitor Center in Bloomington.
