Birding with Merlin

January 4, 2026 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am CST

The January sound of year-round and wintering birds of Minnesota are familiar and comforting after seasonal birds have migrated south.  This is a great time to listen and learn to identify our common species by their calls and songs, with relatively easy spotting when the trees are bare of leaves.  The Merlin phone app is a great listening tool for learning bird calls.  Whether you are new to using Merlin or use it regularly when you go outdoors, put on your warm coat, gloves, and hat for a one-hour bird walk at Crosby Farm Regional Park.  Woodpeckers, chickadees, nuthatches, juncos, and Canada Goose are among the birds that we will likely hear and see.  The Merlin app is available for download for Android and iPhone here: https://merlin.allaboutbirds.org/

Directions are to Magnolia Blossom Cruises at 2500 Crosby Farm Road, then continue past the marina and into the large parking area of Crosby Farm Regional Park,
